Under high-load continuous production with cooling systems running year-round, the original chemical dosing programme could not raise the cycles of concentration, keeping blowdown and makeup-water costs high. After switching to side-stream ECD descaling, the cycles of concentration were raised, blowdown was reduced, and the heat-exchanger terminal temperature difference returned to the design range.
